Don KB3COS (SK) with Skipper
On Sunday June 26, 2005 the Amateur radio community lost a very special man--Don KB3COS--a fine gentleman and a wonderful friend. His wonderful laugh and smile could light up a sullen day (and in the Binghamton area we have a lot of them). Don's outlook on life was exemplary. Although in a wheelchair, he stood heads above the rest, always upbeat and caring about others. Hearing Don's weakening voice on the STAR net reassured us that all was still right with the world. Nothing seemed to please Don more than hosting the early bird net at 5:30 AM on the 73 machine here in Binghamton. As a member of the 79ers group, Don reveled on HF with the group, many nights telling our control op (Walt W2DES) that he didn’t have much to say, but that was Don's way, never inconveniencing others. A gentle soul, with an equally warm smile. Don, your signal may be gone from our receivers, but you will always remain Q5 in our hearts. 73, Duane K2DLT
